Beautiful Artifacts is an ongoing photographic exploration of discarded wedding gowns found in thrift stores and estate sales. Once carefully chosen for one of life’s most meaningful rituals, these dresses have outlived their original purpose. Separated from the women who wore them, they remain as anonymous remnants of deeply personal histories.

I photograph each gown as a portrait rather than a garment. Removed from resale racks and placed in carefully constructed settings, the dresses are given a renewed presence. Their aging satin, delicate lace, and hand-sewn details reveal both exquisite craftsmanship and the passage of time.

Detached from the women and lives they once belonged to, the gowns become vessels of memory, absence, and transformation. They embody hope, devotion, and the desire for permanence, while also bearing the uncertainty of what followed. Their individual stories are unknowable.

What remains is the gown itself: a beautiful artifact.
